ABOUT VIEWS: L’AMOUR GRANDE

VIEWS: L’Amour Grande is a free placemaking and mural creation program that celebrates youth and their vibrant stories and contributions to the Steeles L’Amoureaux neighbourhood in North Scarborough.

From September to December 2023, Next Generation Arts collaborated with emerging youth artists aged 15-29 years old in reimagining the youth space in the L’Amoreaux Community Centre. Participants took part in 14 weekly intensive workshops focused on building skills in community consultation and research, storytelling, mural design, and painting techniques with the guidance of a community artist and professional muralists.

Past VIEWS PROJECTS

views: golden girls

Throughout the summer and fall of 2022, the first official iteration of VIEWS (Vision of Inspiring & Empowering Walls in Scarborough) was launched with the partnership of City of Toronto as a Cultural Hotspot Signature Project. The first edition, entitled Golden Girls, was hosted in the Golden Mile area, consulting with community members, residents, youth groups, business owners to discuss the presence and opportunities for girls, women and females in the area. Simultaneous to these conversations, VIEWS: Golden Girls trained young emerging artists to hone in on their artistic aspirations and skills to begin and build their experiences in murals. This ultimately resulted in the VIEWS: Golden Girls mural designed by Mariz Pe.The mural travels down the main hall of the O’Connor Community Centre featuring imagery and quotes of the diversity and strength of both the Golden Mile neighbourhood and the vivacious women in the community.
